  • How should I store my candles?

Store your candle in a cool, dry place. If exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods of time, soy candles may discolor or fade.

  • Why is there smoke or soot coming from my candle?

While soy candles do not emit toxins, you may see soot begin to accumulate on the container if the wick is too long, there is a draft around your candle or the candle has been burning for an extended period of time. This is NOT the same as the toxic soot left from paraffin candles.

  • Why can I no longer smell my candle while it's burning?

When you burn your candle for extended periods of time the wax gets too hot and the fragrance oils begin to burn off and may result in you no longer being able to smell your candle. It's also possible that you've become "nose blind" to the fragrance. Try stepping outside of the room for a few minutes and then come back into the room.

  • Why does my candle have a bumpy surface?

Soy wax does not cool with a perfectly smooth top and may appear bumpy or develop small crystals (often referred to as frosting). Both of these traits are purely cosmetic and do not affect the performance of your candle. It's also possible to see frosting on the sides of candle jars.

  • Why does my candle look splotchy?

The splotchy look is likely a result of the wax pulling away from the jar resulting in what is referred to as wet spots. This most often happens in colder weather as the wax expands and contracts. You may notice the wet spots change their position. This is completely normal and does not affect the performance of your candle.

  • Do candles expire?

The answer to this question can vary by fragrance, but generally, if you store your candles in a cool, dry place that is out of direct light you should be able to enjoy them for years to come!

  • What is wick mushrooming?

At times you may notice build-up, similar looking to a mushroom, on the end of your wick. This is most often seen when the candle has been burning for an extended period of time.

Trim this "mushroom" off of the wick before you light it again and be sure to dispose of the debris.

  • why does my 3-wick candle look uneven?

Our 3-wick jars are made from handblown glass and it is not uncommon for there to be slight variations in the curve along the bottom or around the rim. Because the jars are not perfectly symmetrical, often times the wax looks wavy in the jar.

  • Why is there wax in the warmer after the fragrance is gone?

There is no flame when you use a wax warmer. Wax will not completely evaporate simply by being heated. You'll also get a stronger scent throw if you use less wax in your warmer.

  • How often should I change the wax in my warmer?

There honestly isn't a right answer. It will depend on the fragrance itself, your warmer and how long you use your warmer. The only real answer is as simple as when you can no longer smell the fragrance.

  • What are your fragrance oils made of?

The fragrance oils that we use in our candles consist of both natural and synthetic aromatic ingredients. Natural fragrances are extracted from plants and flowers and synthetic fragrances are manufactured from man-made materials.

  • What are your wicks made of?

We use a flat braided cotton wick with paper threads woven into the cotton. Our wicks are lead and zinc free.

  • What is a fragrance note?

Fragrances are often referred to in the terms of top, middle and base notes. The way the notes combine together is what creates the scent profile.

Top notes are often what you smell first and give you an initial impression of a fragrance. This is often the lighter scent and most volatile, which means they tend to fade more quickly than the other notes.

Middle notes are the heart of the fragrance as it's what balances out the top and base notes. The middle notes are usually the most prominent aroma you will smell while the candle is burning.

Bottom or base notes are often what you will find lingering in the room once a candle has been extinguished. They are the lasting impression of a fragrance.

  • What are the benefits of soy wax?

Soy wax is biodegradable and comes from a natural, renewable resource. Our soy wax comes from soybeans grown right here in the USA. Soy wax does not contain petrol-soot and will not emit toxins. Our soy wax is completely free of animal-derived substances.

Many of our customers have noticed that our soy candles do not give them headaches, leave black soot marks on their walls, and do not have a chemical smell like some candles made from or with paraffin.

  • Are your fragrance oils safe?

All of our fragrance oils are phthalate-free and adhere to RIFM and IFRA standards for safety and purity.

While many of our fragrance oils are skin-safe (able to be used in items like lotion or soap) this is not something we have tested because we do not make body products. We do not suggest using our candles as a lotion or massage candle.

  • Do you use essential oils in your candles?

Some of our fragrance oils are blended with a safe, candle-grade amount of essential oils. Improper use of essential oils in candles can be toxic and often the properties of the essential oil will burn off.

  • Are your products compliant with California Prop-65?

Yes. Our candles and wax melts do not contain any of the toxins or materials that would require additional prop-65 labeling.

  • What is a phthalate?

There are many types and classifications of phthalates. The phthalates creating a concern for human health is typically used in plastic products. Phthalates used in fragrance oils, known as DEP (Diethyl Phthalate), are solvents used to extend the aromatic strength of the candle fragrance oil. DEP has been found to be non-toxic in skin products and candles if used at safe levels.

We only use phthalate-free fragrance oils in our products.

  • Do nut scented candles contain actual nuts?

There are no actual nuts or oils derived from nuts in any of our fragrances, but depending on the severity of the nut allergy, we still can't guarantee these fragrances would not aggravate an allergy.

While the fragrances themselves don't contain actual nut ingredients, we can't guarantee they weren't made in a facility that may use nut oils in other products.

  • Is your wax vegan?

The wax we use in our candles and melts is completely free of animal-derived substances and cruelty-free, making it vegan-friendly!
