When we hear the word "Hygge" (pronounced hoo-ga), we usually picture a very specific scene: A snowstorm raging outside, a crackling fireplace, heavy wool blankets, and a dark, moody room.
But Hygge isn't about the weather. It’s a feeling. It’s the Danish concept of cozy contentment and well-being.
And honestly? We need that feeling just as much in the Spring as we do in the Winter.
As we celebrate National Hygge Day on February 28th, we are embracing a new concept: Spring Hygge.
Here is how to transition your cozy rituals for the brighter days ahead:
-
Lighten the Layers In winter, we want heavy, chunky knits. For Spring Hygge, swap those out for lighter textures. Think soft cotton throws, linen pillows, and open windows. You can still be cozy without overheating!
-
Bring the Outside In Hygge is about connection to nature. In January, that meant pine branches. In February and March, it means fresh tulips on the kitchen table or a bundle of eucalyptus in the shower.
-
Change the Scent Scent is the fastest way to shift the mood of a room.
-
Winter Hygge: Was all about Orange Peel & Clove and warm spices.
-
Spring Hygge: Is about Leather & Bay Leaf (earthy and grounded) or Sunshine & Grace (bright and happy). It’s about lighting a candle that makes you feel calm and content, even if the March winds are blowing outside.
-
Slow Down The most important part of Hygge is presence. It’s putting the phone down and enjoying your morning coffee. It’s reading a book in a sunbeam. It’s enjoying the process of cleaning your home with a Lemon & Lavender candle burning, rather than rushing through the chore.
Happy National Hygge Day from all of us at Abboo Candle Co.!
